In the heart of a bustling metropolis, rental prices determine the baseline of one's tolerance for 'discordance.' For Lin Xiao, a recent graduate, this top-floor apartment in the old district, priced ridiculously low, initially felt like winning the lottery. However, during her first week, she began to notice subtle inconsistencies: the water glass on her bedside table shifted by three centimeters by morning; or in the dead of night, a sound like fingernails lightly scratching the interior of the walls echoed through the room.

恐懼核心 / The Core Terror

林曉將這一切歸結為舊房子的自然沉降或心理壓力。直到那天，她發現了衣櫥背後的那個縫隙。那是一個極其狹窄的空間，僅僅寬約四十公分，被一層劣質的壁紙隨意遮掩。當她好奇地撕開壁紙時，她發現那不是牆壁，而是一道隱蔽的木門，門縫中透出的一股陳舊、潮濕且帶著淡淡腐敗氣息的冷風，讓她脊椎一陣發涼。

Lin Xiao attributed everything to the natural settling of an old building or psychological stress. That was until she discovered the gap behind the wardrobe. It was an extremely narrow space, barely forty centimeters wide, carelessly concealed by a layer of poor-quality wallpaper. When curiosity led her to peel it away, she realized it wasn't a wall, but a hidden wooden door. A draft of stale, damp air with a faint scent of decay seeped through the crack, sending a chill down her spine.

This secret space was designed as a series of 'viewports' to observe the entire house. On the wall facing the bedroom, small holes had been drilled into the wood, aligned perfectly with her bed. Lin Xiao collapsed onto the floor, overwhelmed by an intense feeling of being watched. If this space existed, did previous tenants know? Or more terrifyingly, had someone been living here all along?

The fear evolved into a pathological obsession over the following days. Lin Xiao began using a voice recorder at home, attempting to capture those dissonant sounds. Late on the third night, while playing back the recording, she heard something terrifyingly clear. Against the backdrop of her own sleeping breath, there was another—a heavy, slow respiration pressed close to the microphone, followed by a faint whisper, as if spoken directly into her ear: 'You found it.'

她驚恐地衝向那個隱蔽的門，卻發現門從內部被反鎖了。她瘋狂地拍打著木板，大聲質問裡面的人是誰。然而，回應她的只有死一般的寂靜。直到她低頭看向地板，發現那層被她撕開的壁紙下方，竟然有一排整齊的、深褐色的指甲抓痕，正從門縫內部向外延伸，像是有人在絕望地嘗試逃離，或者，是在等待她開啟門的那一刻。

She rushed in terror toward the hidden door, only to find it locked from the inside. She hammered frantically on the wood, screaming, demanding to know who was there. However, the only response was a deathly silence. Then, she looked down and noticed that beneath the wallpaper she had torn away, there was a row of neat, dark-brown scratch marks extending outward from the interior of the door, as if someone had been desperately trying to escape—or perhaps, waiting for the exact moment she opened the door.

林曉立刻搬出了那間公寓，但噩夢並未結束。每當她在新家的深夜獨自醒來，她總能感覺到一種熟悉的、潮濕的冷風在頸後吹過，以及那種被窺視的視線。她意識到，那個『東西』可能並沒有留在舊公寓裡，而是跟隨著開啟門的人，找到了新的棲息之處。

Lin Xiao moved out of the apartment immediately, but the nightmare did not end. Whenever she wakes up alone in the dead of night in her new home, she can still feel that familiar, damp draft brushing against her neck and the oppressive sensation of being watched. She realized that the 'thing' might not have stayed in the old apartment; instead, it followed the person who opened the door, finding a new place to dwell.

都市傳說背景 / Urban Legend Trivia

這個故事靈感源自於現代都市中真實存在的『壁中人』現象（Hidden Room Phenomenon）。在一些舊式公寓或經過不當改造的房屋中，確實存在著被封死或隱藏的夾縫空間。心理學上，這種『日常中的不協調感』最能引起人類的本能恐懼。警告：如果你發現家中的牆壁溫度異常低，或者在完全封閉的房間內感覺到有人在注視你，請檢查你的家具後方是否隱藏著不屬於建築原圖的縫隙。

This story is inspired by the real-world 'Person in the Wall' phenomenon (Hidden Room Phenomenon). In some old apartments or improperly renovated houses, there are indeed sealed or hidden gap spaces. Psychologically, this 'discordance in the everyday' triggers the most primal human fear. Warning: If you notice an unusually low temperature on your walls or feel a presence watching you in a completely sealed room, check behind your furniture for any gaps that do not belong in the original architectural blueprints.
